Have you ever heard of the term ‘digital photos’?
Well, just in case you haven’t…
Digital photos are an electronic representation of a photograph. Just like how you could get a printed photograph and hold it and frame it, digital photos are their electronic cousins. Since the photos are electronic, they’re easy to share and view.
Digital photos make it super easy to have online galleries for people to download a full gallery of images straight to their hard drive or computer in just a few minutes – depending on internet speed.
Not only does it make online galeries possible, but also social sharing. Digital photos are easy to share with friends and family throughout the world. They can be posted on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram or any social media platforms in just a few short clicks. It’s a fast way to show glimpses into our daily lives without much hassle.
So, you may be wondering what’s the downside of digital photos, if any?
I’ll be honest. There really is no downside to digital photos. They’re digital glimpses of our daily lives. And they’re easy to share.
But where do we keep these digital photos? After you’ve shared the initial one or two files with your friends or family, what do you do with the other images that weren’t shared.
The reality is oftentimes, we ask for these digital photos and they hardly ever see the light of day.
What do I mean?
The beauty of getting your precious moments with your family captured, is so you can display them in your home or office. What’s the point of having all the digital photos, only to have them in a folder on your computer? Or at the bottom of a drawer, on a flash drive where no one can see?
You don’t need digital photos. Although, I must admit, they’re good to have. But the point of having images is to display them. Your moment was captured and it brings you so much joy everytime you look back at that memory. So why hide it?
So that’s my main point.
Don’t just get digital photos for the sake of getting them. Get printed images that you can see without having to go searching for them. And don’t get small 8 x 10” prints either. Invest in wall portraits that are 16 x 20” and bigger. Even photo books are a fantastic idea. Because you want to keep these moments alive and in view. Don’t take the time to capture them and then not put them proudly on display.
