Family photography in Barbados is an opportunity to get the whole family together. The parents, the grandparents, the siblings and anyone else that completes the family circle. These sessions are often posed in the studio or outdoors.
That said, my goal is to switch things up a bit. To encourage people to try something bold and new. Family photography should be more about being authentically you. Being candid, beautiful and genuine as you share your moments is the bedrock of the family. It’s all about those everyday activities from baking cookies, doing weekend chores, changing pampers and meeting the rest of the family.
Here’s why candid family photos are the ideal photos you should be taking now:
1. Candid photos make some of the most beautiful photos
No one can perfectly pose that moment when you look into your little one’s eyes and the joy just paints itself across your face. Or when you share a laugh that rockets through your soul. Candid moments are often the most genuine. For this reason they’re also the most beautiful and authentic and the ones that you’ll cherish the most.
2. Doing something familiar makes the session easier for your little ones
If your little ones are part of your photo session, you want to ensure they’re as comfortable as possible. These little ones are often the stars of the session. It makes it easier for everyone if they’re willing to participate, especially if it involves doing something they already know and love. It could be just playing with their toys or sitting in their favourite chair.
3. It’s easier for all involved to be in the comfort of your own home
Having the photo session at home cuts down on traveling time. No need to rush to get everyone dressed and packed up in the car. You can just stay in the comfort of your home. Now you may be saying but that’s still added stress to tidy and clean. What should I say? A house should look lived in. Obviously I wouldn’t want to walk in and see a bunch of empty pizza boxes tossed around, but a little mess offers a genuineness to the session. And it’s what you want to remember.
4. You get to take the pressure off
Sometimes all the studio lights and equipment can make people feel more than a little intimidated. Oftentimes, people are so overwhelmed that they don’t get to even enjoy the session. Well, when you’re doing something you’re already familiar with and at a location that you’re comfortable at, it allows you to take the pressure off. No pressure. No stress. No worries. Just time to focus on having fun.
5. You get to focus on what matters most
When you take away all the distractions of dressing up for the studio, driving to a location, and everything else, you get time to focus on what matters most – the people you love. Doing what you love with who you love.
What should you remember?
Every single moment is precious and should be captured in its truest form. Your day in the life could be anything you want it to be. That’s what makes it the most authentic.
